I was going to try writing this in Finnish but it's a bit too technical for my vocabulary. I live in Porvoo and have a cable subscription with Sonera. As their introductory offer, they sold me a Thomson TCW710 modem for a low price. This modem contains a routing function, DHCP, wireless etc. That's all fine and well, except I already have a Linksys WRT54GL from my old place set up to handle routing, port forwarding, etc. The problem is this: the modem only has ten spaces for port forward rules, for example. No more than this. I would like to either a) switch the modem into CM mode (not RG) and use it *only* as a modem, or b) disable its routing/firewall/forwarding functions some other way, or c) find a way to pass all ports to the Linksys to be handled (I already tried forwarding 0-65535 but it didn't work). I can't find anything on the internet to explain how to do this, and most threads I did find where people had the TCW710 were either in Spanish or Finnish, so I'm guessing this is my best bet for success. The manual says that the ISP (Sonera) will be able to change the mode from RG -> CM (I'm guessing via a TFTP push), but when I contacted Sonera, they said it was up to Thomson to give the instructions. I contacted Thomson, who said it was my ISP. In the meantime, I'm sitting here with a useless Linksys and a modem/router which has very limited capabilities. Can anybody help? Answers can be in English (preferably) or in Finnish / vastauksia myös suomeksi mutta englanti on parempi mulle. Kiitos!
It's very similar to the problems many users have in this thread: http://keskustelu.plaza.fi/muropaketti/bbs/t500574 I have the same hardware/firmware revisions, and I also don't have the "switch mode" button (or access to the RgSwitchMode page). Is my only solution REALLY to just buy a different modem?
